GCRF Challenge Leaders – Vacancies at RCUK/UKRI

The EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) is looking to appoint several GCRF Challenge Leaders to give strong, intellectual and strategic leadership for each Challenge Portfolio, and to strengthen coordination across multiple delivery partners.

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a 5-year £1.5Bn fund led by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) which operates across a number of delivery partners, including the UK Research Councils, UK Higher Education Funding bodies, the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Society, British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and UK Space Agency.

The EPSRC is seeking to appoint the equivalent of a full time Challenge Leader for each of the following portfolios, all of which are aligned with the UN Strategic Development Goals (SDGs):

  • Global Health
  • Food Systems
  • Security Protracted Conflict, Refugee Crises and Forced Displacement (50% position only)
  • Education
  • Resilience to Environmental Shocks and Change (this position has been filled)
  • Cities and Sustainable Infrastructure (50% position only)

One or two Challenge Leaders will be expected for each portfolio, dependent on the breadth and scope of each portfolio and the skills and experience of individuals. The positions can be filled by academics or non-academics. Please note 50% of the Security Protracted Conflict, Refugee Crises and Forced Displacement and Cities and Sustainable Infrastructure positions is filled.

Salary: £57632 – £73640

Contract Type: Fixed Term – 2 years

Hours: Full Time/Part Time (minimum 0.5 FTE)
