New Media Course: Tools & Techniques for Risk Assessment and Crisis Management

The ICT4Peace Foundation will run a new media course on Tools & Techniques for Risk Assessment and Crisis Management in Switzerland this summer.

The ICT4Peace Foundation is a policy and action-oriented international Foundation. Their purpose is to save lives and protect human dignity through Information and Communication Technology. 

This course

Given the rapidly increasing deluge of information from multiple sources and in real time, finding actionable, verified intelligence contributing to efficient and effective responses, risk management and decision making is a challenge nowadays.

This course introduces participants to a variety of new and social media tools, platforms and apps used in the collection, presentation, verification and dissemination of critical information in a timely manner. Participants have the chance to do hands-on exercises using these tools through interactive activities and group work, while also learning about cybersecurity to protect information, communications and sources. A new and comprehensive module introduces ways on how to identify and guard against the intent of fake news, particularly over social media.

The participants

are members of the UN system and other international humanitarian, peacebuilding and peacekeeping agencies, experts working in crisis management, entrepreneurs in the humanitarian and IT sector, journalists, media personnel, consultants with an expertise or keen interest in crisis and risk management as well as business employees in relevant positions.

Course Fee

The course fee amounts to 2000 Swiss Francs, covering the costs for tuition and full board accommodation. The fee is due before the beginning of the course. Travel costs and insurance have to be covered by the participants.
