Pre-call announcement for Centre on Understanding, Countering and Mitigating Security Threats
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) in partnership with the UK security and intelligence agencies will shortly open a call inviting proposals for the world class interdisciplinary Centre on Understanding, Countering and Mitigating Security Threats.
Proposals will be invited from interdisciplinary UK based academic teams to establish a centre which will maximise the impact of research, yet retain academic independence.
It is expected that in the first instance funding will be available for the period of three years, with a possible extension for another two years following the review.
It is envisaged that the main focus of the proposed centre will be on researching and understanding violent extremism and terrorism in order to develop approaches to countering them, with particular attention to enhancing the knowledge and skills of frontline security professionals.
The centre will be expected to communicate their research findings through a range of channels, from traditional scholarly communication to creative and effective communications to practitioner audiences.
It is expected that full guidance and the call specification will be released week commencing 26 January 2015.
