Human Trafficking and the War in Ukraine

Last month, University College London researchers Dr Ella Cockbain and Dr Aiden Sidebottom released a report with the Office of the Anti-Slavery Commissioner on “The war in Ukraine and associated risks of human trafficking and exploitation.” The new report, available here, provides vital insights from an evidence-gathering roundtable into lessons and concerns associated with the risks of human trafficking related to the war in Ukraine, with a focus on the UK context. The report also delivered key policy recommendations for institutions including the Home Office, the Department of Health and Social Care, and Child Safeguarding Partnerships.

Dr Ella Cockbain is a recipient of a PaCCS project grant from our 2018 Transnational Organised Crime: Deepening and Broadening our Understanding call, and she is presently working on a data science approach to deciphering and disrupting the social, spatial and temporal systems behind transnational human trafficking.
